This round 2 Club Championship game played in Connolly Park on last Sunday afternoon 12th Sept was a typical old-style Town Derby with both sides playing to the edge and Donal Casey, the experienced referee that he is, issuing many yellow cards to both sides but stopping at that. It was nip and tuck right up to the 51st minute with no more than two points separating the sides at any stage. Rahillys then took charge of the third quarter outscoring us by five to two to go in at the second water-break leading by two points to But we took complete control in the final quarter adding a further goal and five points while holding the opposition to just two late points.
We now have a trip to Dingle on the weekend after next Sunday 26th Sept at 2. With both sides already through to the next round after their two wins in the opening rounds the result of this third round game will just determine who tops the group.
There will then be two semi finals Winner Group 1. We are in Group 2 together with Dr. Crokes, St. Kierans and West Kerry. This left us with that two points lead at half time to We then dominated the third quarter scoring four points to two for the opposition.
Our first point came inside two minutes after the resumption and it was superb. This had increased our lead to four at the end of the third quarter to But as we said earlier we kept our nerve and finished off the game in the four additional minutes of added time with two more points from Adam and Jack.
Team captain Dylan Casey, who himself is having a brilliant season, received the winning Cup from Co. We have a break now for a fortnight before we take on East Kerry in a double-header in Austin Stack Park on Saturday week 30th 0ct. Our game, which will be live on RTE 2, throws-in at 7pm, with the opening game between St. East Kerry ; Austin Stacks Championship at the quarter final stage after good wins in the earlier rounds against Dr. Crokes and West Kerry walk-over.
With some of our squad just in the 15 year age bracket it was always going to be difficult to outplay a divisional unit as strong as East Kerry and with so many Club teams to choose from. They led at half time by to , our two points coming from Damien Hogan frees. Damien was also on target with similar scores during the third quarter with East Kerry extending their tally to In the final quarter they added a further five points while Daniel Kirby and Cillian Litchfield scored two super points from play for us.
